This is the United States Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, eating traditional Berber food in a khosh hafr (think Luke Skywalker house) in western Libya. To his left is hannah draper (yes, her name is legally lowercase and she works for the State Department), who may not be Wonkistani but is certainly a wonk and a -stani. This blog post of hannah’s describes how the photo came to be.
Note: Ivan and I drafted this post several days ago. As you may know, Chris Stevens was killed today in Libya. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who knew the victims of today’s attack.
