The verb ‘to do’ should be used not when it is redundant, in constructions such as: “I do not eat meat”. If we look at the construction the ‘not’ follows the verb: “I do not” so, logically, that pattern should be followed with all verbs: I eat not; I know not; and so on. These constructions still exist but are fading so fast that it is only a matter of time before we shall be communicating with grunts.
Allan Metcalf is having a contest for the most convincing made-up grammar stickler rule. The comments are priceless.

so the next time someone asks, should i say “i eat not pork”? sounds so weird, but i like it. This definitely makes sense since we say “i eat pork” instead of “i do eat pork”
